Smoothie Bowls

One of the best things about travelling is discovering new foods. In my recent travels (to the Hawaii Islands), I discovered acai bowls, fruit bowls, smoothie bowls - whatever you want to call them. I found these so tasty and refreshing, I'd thought I'd look up a few recipes for when I get home. They we're sooo good and full of nutrients that I just had to share with you.

They are filled with "super foods" (aka fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, etc.) and very easy to prepare. They make for a great snack and they will no doubt fill you up til your next meal. I did modify these recipes to add more protein (adding protein powder or plain Greek yogurt). Don't be afraid to get creative with these. You can modify or alter some ingredients if you wish. For example, if you don't prefer almonds, you can use some pecans or macadamias, etc.

Recipe #1

Very Berry Bowl

Portion: 1

1 cup frozen Berries

½ cup Greek yogurt

¼ cup almond milk

1 Tbsp. maple syrup (Optional* additional for drizzling)

¼ tsp pure vanilla extract

½ cup granola crumbs

5 strawberries, sliced

¼ cup blueberries

2 Tbsp. almonds

1 Tbsp. pumpkin seeds

1 tsp chia seeds/Hemp seeds

Blend the berries, yogurt, maple syrup, protein powder and the vanilla until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and top with the granola, strawberries, blueberries, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds/hemp seeds.

Recipe #2

Pineapple, Kale and Banana Smoothie Bowl

Portion: 1

1 cup frozen pineapple

1 banana

½ scoop vanilla protein powder

1 cup Kale (or spinach)

¼ cup Greek Yogurt (mixed with a bit honey or maple syrup)

¼ cup coconut water OR almond milk

1 Tbsp. honey

2 Tbsp. sunflower seeds

2 Tbsp. Almonds

¼ cup Granola

Blend the pineapple, banana, yogurt, protein powder, coconut water (or almond milk) and 1 tablespoon of the honey until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and top with sunflower seeds, granola and almonds. Add some fruits for décor! Drizzle with a bit of honey if needed.

I hope you will enjoy these yummy bowls as much as I did. I would love to feature more recipes for you. So let me know if you have any recipes you'd like to share.

Ps. Sharing is caring ;)
