Book Review - Wellness, Self-Love, Fitness

I’ve been doing lots of research lately and looking for ways to learn about love, myself and just life in general. I know that’s sounds a bit cliché, but I think that at some point we feel the need to dig a little deeper. So I did & this his is how found my love for reading.

 

I usually aim for poetry, wellness & health, psychology, business/marketing books, etc. I’ve had some great finds in the last few years and I wanted to share with you the one’s that particularly resonated with me.

 

The Body Book

Author: Cameron Diaz

 

 

 

This is a long one so buckle up. This one took me over a year to finish. But don’t worry, it shouldn’t take you that long - I just really took my time. This book talks mostly about health/wellness. Naturally, I was drawn to  it - having a background in nutrition and fitness, myself. It has 3 categories:

 

Nutrition: Covering a variety of common nutrition myths and fad diets. It explains what is “clean eating” and how to reach a good nutritional balance. It provided examples of healthy foods and healthy alternatives.

 

Fitness: This section specifically talks about physical activity and how to well nurture your body when you are working out. It also talks about the all fitness hacks and myths. This book helped me understand how to training better and provided me with the tools I needed to keep achieving good results. This book allowed me to refine my knowledge around fitness and I was able to implement these great tools into my own fitness journey.

 

Mind: Last but not least, Cameron covers a section about the mind and body connection. This was the part of the book that taught me the most. It talks about how deep we need to connect our mind to our body to reach our goals. Our brain is like a muscle - the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. And whatever you are doing, your brain needs to concentrate on that for you to succeed. This goes for working out, gaining muscle mass, losing fat, eating well, etc.

 

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. I learned so many things about wellness but mostly about myself. It inspired me and helped me succeed in my “fitness journey”. 

 

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

Author: Mark Manson

 

 

I don’t even know where to begin with this one. This book truly changed the way I look at things. The title truly speaks for itself. This book helped me clear my mind and give me a clear path to which of my values I should stick with and which one’s I should to throw in the garbage. 

 

I was a bit skeptical after reading the first few chapters - it was very blunt and puts you out of “fantasy" mode, if I do say so myself. But it was so intriguing, I literally couldn’t stop myself from flipping to the next page or to the next chapter. It made me understand that everything in life is temporary and that we should only give a f*ck about what truly matters to us. Of course, sticking to your values (or better yet trying to change them), won’t always be easy, but it’ll be worth pursuing if that’s what truly matters to you. 

 

Values change over time, of course - but it really made me reflect on my current values and if they we’re actually all important to me. The author talks about a lot more than values in the book, however this is what really stuck with me. The last chapter was by far my favourite. I would love to tell you about it, but I don’t want to ruin the punch line. So I’ll leave you with this; you should absolutely give a f*ck about this book -  it's phenomenal.

 

Love Her Wild

Author: Atticus

 

I’ve been obsessing over poetry books lately and this book was by far my favourite one (and also my first purchased one). It has three parts to it : Love , Her & Wild. Again…  the title speaks for itself. 

 

The reason why I loved this so much is that it was very raw. There’s something about poetry that is so special. Every paragraph can be interpreted differently. You may think this is weird, but we actually tested this out. My friends and I, sat in a circle (and of course, there was wine  involved) one night and decided to each read a few pages of poetry. We realized that only in a few sentences, we we’re all interpreting it differently. Which is pretty cool if you ask me. 

 

I think this is why I love poetry so much. It’s very vulnerable and lays it all out there, but makes you feel something at the same time. It can take you back to experiences you've been through or thoughts and feelings you are currently experiencing. This book just spoke to me. Somehow, it made me feel understood and happy.

 

If you have been thinking about reading poetry, I strongly suggest you to check out this book. Each part is very different but all so enchanting.
